The series “In Retrospect” begins with an exploration of the materiality of photography - I wonder how it is integral to the photograph’s meaning and use. In the age of mechanical reproduction, I am curious to see how people mark their own desire through material intervention on mass-produced objects, thus reasserting their positions as authors. Based on such mesmerization and drawing from my personal life experiences, I started this project in 2017 and have been working on it ever since. Dealing with nostalgia and memories, I print out life- size photographs depicting significant personal moments and then stage myself interacting with the people in the photos. In doing so, the printed photographs are materialized into fetishized, desired objects representing loss, and were subject to the acts of interaction, tender touches, and then to be captured once again.
